As I Am (2016)

As I Am is an intercollegiate magazine, with works from Asian American students attending Wesleyan University, Yale University, Dartmouth University, or Tufts University.

The purpose of creating As I Am was to heighten Asian American visibility within the arts and humanities, as well as to forge a collective Asian American identity. However, this collection of works does not come close to representing Asian America in its entirety – the majority (if not all) of the pieces I received were created by East Asian individuals.

Some open questions: who gets to call themselves "Asian American," and who doesn't? Who defines Asian America? Is the usage of this term inherently political?
